Village Deputy Manager

Do you want to support the success of Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games?

Birmingham 2022 is looking for a Village Deputy Manager to join our Commonwealth Village Team. The Village Deputy Manager will deputise for the Village General Manager, supporting the set-up and preparation of the Commonwealth Village prior to Games time. During Games time, this role will be hands on acting as a main contact for communications and operations throughout the Village.

Key responsibilities will include issue resolution as required, developing effective working relationships with venues and stakeholders, and ensuring service levels and policies are consistently adhered to.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Village General Manager and wider team with the definition of all levels of service across departments operating in the Village, ensuring effective preparation before Games time.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of a safe, secure and comfortable environment for athletes and team officials across the Commonwealth Village.
  • Manage the Village Information Desk providing various key services, troubleshooting client needs, and delivering daily briefings of key Games time information to the wider team.
  • Ensure all Village operations are at a premium level and agreed service levels, and adherence to both Village and Birmingham 2022 policies whilst maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Support the integration of various functional areas and teams within the Village, facilitating communication, sharing of procedures, and ensuring effective working relationships.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the Village throughout Games time, including during arrivals and departures processes, conducting regular checks and supporting the wider team.
  • Deputise in the General Managers absence, ensuring all key tasks and services are delivered in a safe and effective manner.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all level with persuasive and articulate communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid time management and goal orientation skills.
  • Flexible, resilient and positive through organisation growth and other challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build excellent stakeholder relationships.

Desirable

  • Experience working within Venue or Event Management either at a Venue or a major event (e.g. sporting or cultural).

Location: One Brindley Place, Birmingham (full time office-based). Please note, during Games time you will be based at either Coventry, Birmingham NEC or Birmingham City Centre.

Salary: £12.50 - £14.00 per hour

Please note, due to the nature of this huge event, shift work including weekend working will be required at Games time. Furthermore, there will be limitations on taking annual leave during the Games operational period in July and August. More specific details can be discussed at interview.

This position is subject to a Basic criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
