Queen's Baton Relay - Route Event Manager

The Queen's Baton Relay is a prestigious part of the Commonwealth Games with the Route Event Manager as the face of the Relay during the delivery process. Working closely with Local Authorities and other key stakeholders the Route Event Manager will be responsible for planning routes, ensuring the Relay passes safely, on time, in budget, and in line with the Organising Committees schedule throughout England, as well as supporting operations across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Route Event Manager is part of the CCQ (Ceremonies, Culture and Queen's Baton Relay) responsible for the Opening & Closing Ceremonies, the Queen's Baton Relay, Sport Presentation, Athletes Welcome, Learning Programme, Cultural Festival, and Live Sites and will report directly to the Senior Project Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall development of routes according to operational logistics, timings, risk criteria, budget and planning parameters;
  • Security planning - working closely with West Midlands Police planning team and other local authorities to identify the route and mitigate risks;
  • Operations and logistics - responsible for documenting the route, including the identification of changeover points, collection points, time adjustment locations, lunch and evening locations, road conditions and terrain, convoy and runner speeds and timings;
  • Event planning - source and acquire support facilities for the convoy, including break sites, lunch locations, refuel locations, photo opportunity locations and other logistical requirements;
  • Support local authorities in the planning and delivery of community celebrations, ensuring they remain in line with the OC's aims and objectives;
  • Management - manage the Advance Coordinator and Pilot/Pace Coordinator.

Skills and Experience Required

Essential

  • Fluent in spoken and written English;
  • UK Drivers Licence;
  • Proven success of working in event operations;
  • Experience of working with local authorities;
  • Advanced user of Microsoft suite, including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent in a related discipline;
  • Relevant Health and Safety qualification;
  • Route measurement experience;
  • Experience in using Geographic Information Systems.

Salary: upto £35,000 per annum
